Bourbon - Animal Food

At the bottom of the Column Stills the so-called Setback accumulates. It consists of water, proteins, fats and the fibres of the mash, while light materials such as alcohol and ester leave over the head of the Column Still. This liquid solution from the bottom is pumped out of the container below the Column Still from time to time.

Early Times - Stillage Tank

First the fibre portion of the Stillage is caught by filters. The remaining liquid part is dried in large drums using superheated steam. The firm components settling at the drum wall are afterwards mechanically removed and given to farmers as fodder. The animal food is very rich in proteins and fats and besides that contains a large amount of trace elements.
