Part 2 - Receiving

Each whisky bottle consists of the glass bottle, the cap and the label. High-quality whisky bottles are additionally packed into paper boxes or tubes, which are again packed into large cardboards cartons and so start their journey to the customer.

High requirements exist for whisky bottles. All bottles are already delivered cleaned at Chivas. All batches are welded into plastic foils so that nothing becomes dirty again. But that’s not enough. Additionally all bottles stand on the head, so that just in case of a breaking of the sealing foil nothing can reach the inside of the bottle.

Once unpacked, these bottles quickly disappear upwards by elevators.

Also the caps are supplied to the bottles in the correct place from below. Chivas uses a patent cap, which safely prevents a re-filling of the bottle. It really has to be destroy to fill something else than Chivas into the bottle. Security is necessary! The status symbol of the prosperity was more than once filled with cheap quality whiskies in the third world.

In the large cellar also the empty cardboard boxes are stored into which always 12 bottles are packed.

Due to space requirements these cardboards are delivered flat and are glued together just in the right moment. A glueing machine ensures that this happens fast.

Wile these preparations take place for the bottling procedure, the actual whisky is pumped into large vats, so that a bottling line never runs empty and is able to work full time.

The scenery is spooky. Who ever saw the movie 'The Hunt for Red October' in the movies? Like the silos for the intercontinental rocket silos in the submarine, the whisky is waiting in many slim and high tanks with over 125.000 litres capacity each.
