Kilchoman 3 Jahre - 2011 Port Cask Matured
The Port Cask Matured release, the first of its kind from the distillery, is fully matured in ex Ruby Port casks allowing for the full influence of the port casks to be imparted into the whisky. The Port Cask Matured release is non chill-filtered and is natural colour. It is bottled at 55% ABV and will be available on 5th September from the distillery shop and other worldwide markets.
The Port Cask Matured has a mahogany colour with a touch of ruby. The nose is powerful with lemon and citrus notes and the palate has smoke right away along with sweet, nutty milk chocolate character. There is a heavy textured finish which drifts away to dry smoke with oakiness.

Die Farbe ist die gleiche wie mein Ahorn vor dem Fenster. Der Duft ist - wie die anderen auch - sehr angenehm mild, ganz wenig Rauch, viel Port. Trotz seiner 55% schön zu trinken. Ich schmecke vor allem Port oder Sherry und den für Kilchoman wohl üblichen Geschmack nach Nelken.
Ich füge etwas Wasser hinzu und der Duft und Geschmack werden süßer. Ich glaube, ohne war er besser. Überzeugt mich nicht ganz.
Geschmack: sehr süß, ölig, geschmeidig, rauchig, Portwein mit roten Beeren und Kirschen, Gewürze, prickelnd würzig, erdig, etwas Kakao
Abgang: lang, stark rauchig, süß, leicht trocken-würzig, Gewürze, belegte Zunge, Portwein, Beeren, etwas Eiche
Kommentar: Super leckeres Teil und das bei nur drei Jahren! Hammer! Parallel zum 2018er verkostet: dieser siegt, er ist „dreckiger“ und voller und intensiver
Kräftiger Rauch Marke Kilchoman, dazu sofort rote Früchte, namentlich Kirschen & rote Trauben. Rote Grütze mit viel Bourbon-Vanillesoße. Weiße Johannisbeeren. Später kommt etwas heuartiges hinzu, aber ganz anders als bei den Speysidern, isoliert und frischer.
Taste
Karamellpudding mit Salz, dunkle, fast zähflüssige, schokoladige Süße. Erwärmt dann jugendlich, metallische Bitterkeit im Ascheregen, gleichzeitig noch zäher & süßer, man meint, jeden Moment fängt der an, Fäden zu ziehen. Der Alkohol ist weich, geht gut pur.
Finish
Mittellang, säuerliche Fruchtnoten, auch hier mit etwas jugendlicher Bitterkeit, aber unaufdringlich. Weicht schnell angenehm süßem Torfrauch.

Uh ja, an dem dürften sich die Geister scheiden. Nicht einfach der Stoff. Auf der einen Seite die Fruchtnoten und der wirklich betörend süße Geschmack, dann aber dieses unreife, welches das Bild trübt. Erstaunlich starke Bourbonnoten für eine komplette Port Maturation.
