All tasting notes
The impact of American oak is immediate and unapologetic, with strong coconut and vanillin notes beautifully complementing the mineral bonfire peat smoke. Great complexities are to be found with water and the malt does not "drown" easily.
On the palate, American oak is again contributing significantly and positively to the overall impression. A rich, almost sweet front-palate gives way to a fine, powdery tannin structure supporting all initial aromas and malt qualities beautifully.
While a little short, the finish elicits a beautifully melancholic, gloomy memory of bonfires.
The American oak may be overpowering to some, but complements and emphasizes the Laphroaig style so seamlessly that I deem it a perfect variation.
