This bottling of Lagavulin is part of the Distillers Edition of the Classic Malts of Scotland. In this series, the Whiskies are filled into various casks from the Iberian peninsula to finish for another six months after the regular maturation. This latest rendition offended me in several ways, not just by the re-vamped design.

The finishing has become shorter and less noticeable, and the overall spirit has declined into a muddled, muted smoked fish and overt caramel quality, while being noticably "spikier" (hot) on the palate.
Quite a disappointment. Time to buy the older version at auction...
