CRAIGELLACHIE-The Bad Boy of Speyside.

The Craigellachie distillery is located on a cliff in the heart of Speyside, towering above the mouth of Scotland's most famous rivers: the Fiddich and the Spey.

The distillery was founded in 1891 by two extraordinary whisky pioneers: Peter Mackie and Alexander Edwards, a local entrepreneur and skilled distiller. Over the years, many stories are told about the two. Incomparable in its style, Craigellaiche has always remained true to itself to this day - even after the distillery and the character of the distillate were labelled "old fashioned" shortly after the opening, they stuck to their own idea. Craigellachie Whisky remains a relentless and distinctive whisky known for its challenging Taste.

Craigellachie 13 Bas-Armagnac Finish

Old Fashioned since 1892

Built like a rock in the heart of Speyside, Craigellachie was designed by Charles Doig, one of the most famous distillery architects. Back in the 1890s, it was already described as "Old Fashioned" by Alfred Bernard - the first whisky blogger, so to speak. A style to which we have remained true to this day.

Founded by 2 whisky icons - Edward & Mackie

Innovative gentlemen with distilling backgrounds Alexander Edwards and Peter Mackie built the distillery on land they bought from Edward's father in 1891. At the time, our distillery was described as the perfect marriage of old and new - a modern mindset with timeless technology.

We use Worm Tubs

Only around 16 distilleries use Worm Tub condensers in Scotland: a traditional way of returning steam to liquid form after distillation. Wormtubs give less copper contact, which helps retain the strong character.

We oil-dry our barley

We are the only distillery in Scotland that uses oil fires to dry our Scottish barley malt during the kilning in the malting process. This step gives our whisky a stronger character.

We stay true to tradition

We prefer the traditional way because it is the right one for us. It was instilled in us by Peter Mackie and it is also the reason why our whisky is not cold-filtered and coloured. We don't experiment. Craigellachie is Craigellachie. Simple and direct.

We make excellent whisky

Craigellachie first came into the spotlight as a Single Malt in 2014. A year later, we won "Best Whisky" at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. In 2017, we outdid ourselves by winning the "Worlds Best Single Malt" award at the World Whisky Awards for the 31-year-old Craigellachie.
