About Laphroaig

Laphroaig (pronounced 'La-froig') means 'the beautiful lowland by the wide bay' in Gaelic. The area around the distillery, which is located on the remote island of Islay (pronounced 'Ei-la') off the west coast of Scotland, is just as beautiful. Laphroaig whiskies are considered the most smoky-intense malt whiskies from Scotland.

Laphroaig Select contains, among other things, portions of common, well-known bottlings such as 10yo, PX Cask, Quarter Cask and Triple Wood. Inaddition, the use of former Bourboncasks and new American oak casks ("Virgin Oak") provides a slightly sweet note.
Laphroaig10 Years embodies everything that makes the distillery so special. For the production of Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this special peat gives the SingleMalt its unique and varied aroma, dominated by intense smoke, mild seaweed and a pleasant sweetness.
With this bottling, lovers of the distinctive, peaty-smoky IslaySingle Malt are enriched with a new and characterful whisky pleasure."Sherry Oak Finish" combines the unforgettable flavour of the 10yo with the sweet and aromatic notes of oloroso sherry casks, perfectly complementing the unique character with complexity and richness.
Laphroaig10 Years Cask Strength is a unique combination of a particularly rich Tasteand the typical, intense character of Laphroaig. It was matured for over 10 years in ex-bourbon casks, is not chill-filtered and was bottled at cask strength.
The term Lore - short for: Folklore - stands for the passing down of knowledge and traditions over generations. The foundation stone for the recipe of Laphroaig Lore was laid as early as 1800 and has since been further developed by the various master distillers. The result is a rich and deep SingleMalt, with characteristic smoke, peat and sea minerals.
LaphroaigQuarter Cask was inspired by the small casks that were often used to store and transport Scotch whisky in the 19th century and intensify the maturing process of a whisky. They give this malt its depth, complexity and smokiness, as well as a surprising, slight sweetness.
Laphroaig25YO is created from a blend of former bourbon casks selected by the Master Distiller. The result is a subtle and elegant Single Malt that combines notes of vanilla and oak with the typical peat smoke of Islay. Not chill-filtered and bottled at cask strength.
Over the years, outstanding bottlings have appeared in the Laphroaig Hunter series. All bottlings include a handmade book that tells stories from the life of the distillery manager. Each bottling over the coming years tells another chapter of Ian Hunter's rich legacy. Ian Hunter was the last descendant of the Johnston family and ran the distillery from 1908 - 1944.
