Product description
The 15-year-old Caol Ila was tracked down and bottled by independent bottler Michel Reick for The Old Friends series. Reick, who is also known for his Scotch Universe, Whisky Druid and Best Dram whiskies, presents Single Malt Whiskies from first fill cask maturations in this series and impressively demonstrates how harmonious the combination of distillate and wood can be. The Caol Ila matured entirely in first fill Saint Estephe Wine Cask, which was pre-matured with Bordeaux red wine. At 57% vol. natural cask strength, the Islay whisky shows its earthy peat smoke notes with facets of seawater, seaweed and ash that play on the tongue and palate with hints of red fruit jelly and sweetened fruit tea. The eye-catching, modern and cinematic labelling with Dracula and Van Helsing reflects the flavour profile of this single malt: just like the two horror cult figures, the smoky and dark intensity of the whisky meets the light fruitiness from the cask maturation in this single malt.

    Aroma: Malzig, süß und fruchtig. Vanille und Honig verbinden sich mit roten Beeren und Kirschen, dazu Muskatwürze, maritime Noten und Torfrauch.

    Geschmack: Vollmundig und dennoch ausgewogen, samtweiche Vanilletöne treffen auf Honig und intensive Fruchtaromen roter Beeren, eine sanfte Meeresbrise fügt sich harmonisch ein.

    Abgang: Lang, vielseitig und malzig, Rauch mit süßen Fruchtnoten und Eichenwürze folgt nach.
