The Ardara Single Malt Irish Whiskey is the first whisky from the Ardara Distillery in County Donegal, Ireland, which was founded in 2022. It is characterised by its strong peat smoke note with a phenol content of 55 ppm, making it one of the smokiest Irish whiskies. This intensity is achieved through the exclusive use of malt grain and traditional triple distillation in copper Pot Still stills. The 'all grains in' process utilises all the crushed grain - except the spent grain - which reduces waste and increases yield. The resulting waste is currently channelled into methane production, with plans to work with a local composting plant in the future. This gives the luscious Single Malt even more special character traits. Maturation takes place in a mixture of American bourbon casks, virgin oak and oloroso sherry casks, with the whisky being stored in a solera vat system to ensure consistency and depth. This combination gives the Ardara Single Malt a complex flavour structure with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit and a smoky finish. The Ardara Single Malt is a high-quality, smoky whisky that embodies the tradition of Irish whisky making in a modern interpretation. It is a must for lovers of intense and complex whiskies.

Herstellerbeschreibungon 16.10.2025Aroma: Süße Getreide- und Keksnoten verschmelzen mit getrockneten Feigen, Kokosnuss, Rosinen und Anklängen von Pfeifenrauch mit etwas kalter Asche.
Geschmack: Reichhaltige Süße von pochierten Birnen, ergänzt durch geröstete Kokosnuss, Mandeln, Leder und Tabakblätter. Wellen von Lagerfeuerrauch folgen und entwickeln sich zu einem weichen, rauchigen Apfelgeschmack.
Abgang: Sanft und rauchig, mit einem Hauch von gebackenem Apfel und einem langanhaltenden, warmen Nachklang.
Geschmack: Pfeffer und Alkohol/ Terpentin

Kommentar: Ich weiß nicht, ob ich nicht evtl. eine mit Lösungs- oder Reinigungsmittel verunreinigte Flasche bekommen habe. Falls die Flasche okay ist, ist dieser Whiskey sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig und hat nichts mit anderen torfigen und rauchigen Whiskies gemein (etwa Ardbeg, Laphroig oder Bowmore). Von der Artikelbeschreibung finde ich nichts wieder - weder im Aroma noch im Geschmack. Für mich persönlich ein recht teurer Fehlkauf.
Einen Stern vergebe ich für das Design der Flasche, das mir sehr gut gefällt (tröstet aber nicht über den Geschmack hinweg).
