The third Ardbeg bottling in the Smoketrails Collection crossed the Atlantic for the first time and landed in the world-famous Napa Valley wine region for maturation. The region in California is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon red wines. The casks that were filled with the exclusive red wine served as a stopover for this travel retail bottling before the whisky was married in former bourbon casks on Islay. At 46% vol., the Ardbeg Smoketrails No. 3 impresses with full-bodied notes, vanilla and fruit that are enveloped in the typical Ardbeg smoke.

Kommentar: Für mich einer der rauchigsten Ardbegs. Und das will bei dieser Destillerie schon etwas heißen. Er braucht viel Zeit im Glas. Wenn man ihm diese gibt, dann wird man belohnt. Er hat eine feine Würze mit typischer Süße und Brotaromen. Im Mund ist er sehr Cremig und überrascht immer wieder mit neuen Nuancen von Roggen, Früchten, Kräutern und Schinken. Das Weinfass ist nicht so stark ausgeprägt, wie ich mir erhofft hatte. Und doch ist es da, macht die Sache rund und verwöhnt immer wieder mit leichten Noten von Trauben. Ich bin u.a. Ardbeg Fan und würde ihn dem Ten vorziehen. aber wir können ja beide genießen ;-)
