Taste profile
Cherry Cherry Berries Berries Fruit Fruit Peat Smoke Peat Smoke Sherry Sherry
Variety Single Malt Whisky
Aroma Opens with strong, peaty-smoky notes, which are accompanied by sweet, fruity accents of red berries and cherries. Fine wood tones from the Merlot barrique and a hint of malt complete the bouquet and ensure depth and complexity.
Taste Full-bodied and oily. The intense peat smoke combines harmoniously with the fruitiness of the Merlot cask, which is reminiscent of cherry, red berries and light tannin. Malty nuances and spicy wood notes for additional structure and balance.
Finish Long-lasting, dry and smoky, while the fruity barrique accents and an elegant hint of oak linger on. The combination of smoke, malt and wine wood leaves a lasting, complex impression.

Product description

Product description
The Ben Nevis First Fill Merlot Wine Barrique Heavily Peated - Peat Wave is a special bottling from a cask from the Highlands distillery Ben Nevis. The independent bottler Caskhound released it as part of its Peat Wave series. This series focuses on strongly smoky whiskies. The spirits are matured in selected casks to reveal their own flavour. Each edition is bottled directly from the cask in limited quantities without chill-filtration or colouring. The bottle reflects the clear expression of the respective cask. The cask, a First Fill Merlot Wine Barrique, gives the smoky malt more depth and a light fruity tone. The smoky flavours and malt characteristics of the whisky are retained. The maturation in this cask gives it the flavour of red berries, cherry but also wood notes from the wine. These tones elegantly complement the complex peat flavour.
