The 100 Proof Edition from Signatory Vintage stands for exclusive Single Malts with an alcohol content of at least 57.1% vol. The term "proof" goes back to a historical unit of measurement that originally indicated the alcohol content at which gunpowder soaked in a liquid could still be ignited. This method was used in the heyday of seafaring to ensure that barrels could withstand the harsh weather conditions on long voyages. Under the direction of Andrew Symington, owner of Signatory Vintage and the Edradour Distillery, the extensive cask stock is used to create whiskies of strong character that are popular with connoisseurs and collectors alike. The 100 Proof series fills a gap in the Signatory range and offers powerful, intense-tasting bottlings without chill-filtration and without the addition of colouring agents. One of these bottlings is the Blair Athol 11 Year Old 100 Proof Edition #64, which, following its maturation in second-fill Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 57.1 % vol. The Single Malt impresses with aromas of ripe fruit, caramel and spicy oak.

The Blair Athol distillery is located in Pitlochry on the road from Perth to Inverness. It was founded in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson under the name "Aldour". Today it belongs to Diageo.

Geschmack: sowohl ohne, als auch mit Wasser sehr süß, dann wieder alle Aromen der Nase mit schöner (Zartbitter) Schokoladennote & Gewürzen

Kommentar: klasse gemacht, das Refill Fass gibt dem Brennerei Charakter genug Raum um sich zu behaupten, im Vergleich zur Flora & Fauna Abfüllung noch balancierter, absolut empfehlenswert! 100 Proof geben genug Verdünnungsreserve für 48, 46 bis hin zu 43%, wird da nicht schwächer, top PLV,
Geschmack: Ölig, sahnig, dickflüssig. Der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden, man spürt Chilli und Pfeffer, aber angenehm. Blütenhonig, Baiser, dunkle Früchte, wieder der Rumtopf, es prickelt belebend auf der Zunge. Jetzt habe ich schwarzen Tee mit Honig gesüßt, frischen Tabak mit Mandelaroma, etwas salzige Anklänge und getrocknete Früchte.
Abgang: Mindestens mittellang, könnte auch 15 Jahre alt sein. Etwas Eiche, der Rumtopf, süß und leicht bitter. Zartbitterschokolade und Schwarzer Tee. Zum Schluss kommt frisches Leder, Orangenschalen und der frische Tabak durch.
Kommentar: Bei rund 39,- € im Angebot habe ich ehrlich gesagt nicht viel erwartet. Und dann kam die positive Überraschung. Nicht sehr vielschichtig in der Nase aber intensiv. Seine großen Stärken hat er dann auf der Zunge und im Abgang
