The Caol Ila #65 Single Malt is part of Signatory Vintage's 100 Proof Edition series, in which exclusive whiskies with an alcohol content of at least 57.1% vol. are bottled. The series is aimed at whisky connoisseurs and curious connoisseurs who appreciate powerful Single Malts with intense flavours at fair prices. Behind the edition is Andrew Symington, owner of Signatory Vintage and the Edradour Distillery, who, together with his team of experts, has access to one of Scotland's largest independent cask stocks to create highly recognisable whiskies with a strong character. The term "proof" goes back to a historical unit of measurement for the alcohol content of spirits and indicates the alcohol content at which gunpowder soaked in the liquid could still be ignited. This method was used during the heyday of seafaring to ensure that the barrels could withstand the harsh conditions at sea. The 10-year-old Caol Ila matured in first fill Oloroso sherry butts and Bourbon hogsheads and was bottled at 57.1 % vol. Cask strength, without the addition of colouring agents and without chill filtration. This single malt has a clear, characterful profile that harmoniously combines the typical notes of smoke, fruity sweetness and spicy oak and offers an intense flavour experience for lovers of strong whiskies.

Kommentar: Naja, man muss attestieren, dass man bekommt, was man bezahlt. In diesem Fall ist es ein Whisky, der mehr über die Stärke und den Rauch besticht, als durch Vielfalt und Komplexität.
Aber auch innerhalb seines Bereichs gibt’s Besseres. Und für ein paar Euro mehr auch bei Caol Ila, siehe Dist.-Edition.
