"Scotland's Little Gem" presents the Edradour 12 year old, which was matured in first fill Madeira hogsheads. What is special about this whisky is that it was distilled and bottled on 29 February. This single malt Scotch from the leap year is both unique and complex. The small batch is composed from ten Portuguese fortified wine casks. With an increased drinking strength of 48.2% vol. and without chill filtration, this whisky unfolds its full flavours.

Fruit Nuts Fazit: Von allen von mir bisher probierten Edradour der Schwächste. Decanter Sherry, 12er, und Sherry Fassstärken spielen meiner Meinung nach in einer anderen Liga.

In der Nase erst starker Madeira Einfluss aber auch die Edradour typische leichte Seifigkeit. Getrocknete Pfirsich, dazu helle Früchte. Eine leichte Nussigkeit mit Tendenz zur Mandel und Minze. Eine Note würde ich mit einer Waldpilzcremesuppe beschreiben, die meiner Meinung nach vom europäischen Eichenholz kommt. Sehr süß und leicht- fruchtig, Alkohol sehr gut eingebunden.

Im Mund weiße Schokolade, nussig, wieder sehr fruchtig- beerig (helle Trauben, aber ohne die Säure oder Bitterkeit). Butterscotch, Butterkeks und leicht ölig mit Puderzucker.
Alkohol im Mund entspannt, leichtes Prickeln auf der Zunge.

Im Abgang immer noch die hellen Trauben, ölig, nussig und fruchtig- süß.

Für einen Edradour eher untypisch hell, aber sehr gut. 88 Punkte

Kommentar: Bin immer wieder froh über die vielen Fass-Experimente, die von Edradour vollzogen werden. Besonders freut mich, dass es nun auch schon Abfüllungen gibt, die ausschließlich im Madeira Cask gelagert wurden (zuvor kam es nur zu einem Finish im Madeira Cask). Bin ein Fan vom Caledonia und als solcher sollte man sich diese Flasche nicht entgehen lassen. Es fehlt bei Edradour mMn nur, dass das Kernsortiment endlich erweitert wird um eine Standardabfüllung, die 15 Jahre alt ist (gab es sogar schon mal, aber leider nur kurz) und eine weitere, die 18 Jahre alt ist (vielleicht irgendwann auch noch 21 und 25 Jahre).
