The El Dorado 12 years comes from the Wooden and Metal Coffey Stills of Demerara Distillers. The EHP Wooden Still is the last fully functioning example of its kind in the world today. It is similar, though not identical, to the very first continuous still, designed and patented in 1832 by Irish revenue officer Aeneas Coffey.

The Distillery:
Founded in the mid-17th century, the distillery on the east bank of the Demerara River looks back on a long and eventful history. Today, it is a leading production company in Guyana. In addition to rum, local and international spirits and beverages are produced and bottled. The Rum is still produced on original stills, including a Port Mourant still, which is largely made of wood.
