Elsburn The Harz is a Single Malt Whisky from Hercynian Distilling Co. that is distilled from 100% regional barley. Maturing in first and second-fill sherry hogsheads and a proportion of first-fill Bourbon casks, it reveals the unique character of the distillery. The family-run distillery has stood for craftsmanship and innovation since 2002. With Elsburn The Harz, the distillery sets a new standard that offers the highest level of enjoyment at a fair price.

Aroma: Fruchtiger, süßer Sherry (tropische Früchte z. B. Banane, Mango) Vanille, Hagebutten. Getreidig und malzig.

Geschmack: Vielseitig, intensiv und deutlich anders als ein Schotte oder bis dahin ein anderer deutscher Whisky, den ich probiert habe: Viel Sherry, mit Vanille, hellen Karamell, Sirup und Marmelade.

Abgang: Maximal mittel. Süßlich mit Aprikosen und Schokolade und leicht bitterem Mokka/Karamell.

Kommentar: Fast nur First-Fill-Fässer von Sherry und Bourbon ergeben ein tolles Geschmacksfeeling! Kein Wunder das etliche Leute Elsburn als das deutsche Macallan feiern! Einfach anders im Geschmack als z. B. Slyrs oder andere Produzenten. Preis/Leistung sehr gut bestanden! Nur Schade das keine Altersangabe dabei ist. Deswegen nur 4 Sterne.

Kommentar: Für einen Elsburn ein erstaunlich leichtfüßiger Malt --- wahrscheinlich ziemlich jung, aber dennoch komplex und lecker. Von den typischen Schokoladen-/ Espressonoten eines älteren Elsburns ist noch wenig zu spüren. In jedem Fall frischer als der "The Journey".
