The 1988 vintage of Glenrothes was bottled for the first time in 2009. This edition matured about 8 years longer in the sherry casks. The malt was also bottled with a higher alcohol content than at that time.

The Distillery: Glenrothes
The Glenrothes Distillery is located in Rothes in the heart of the Speyside. It looks back on a very turbulent history. The day the first spirit was distilled at Glenrothes was 28 December 1879 and this might have been seen a bit as a bad omen: It was the day the Tay Bridge at Dundee collapsed. Several times The Glenrothes was hit by fire and it burnt down at last, but as a phoenix it rose again and today it’s back on the stage and playing a big role in the Whisky game.

Herstellerbeschreibungon 21.06.2019Aroma: Nussig mit Früchtekuchen, Muskat und schwarzer Johannisbeere.
Geschmack: Cremig und voll mit Vanille.
Abgang: Lang und würzig mit Trockenfrüchten.

Marko_Ion 20.03.2018Aroma: im ersten Anlauf fruchtig-süß, marmeladig, Kirsche, leichter Anklang von Pflaumenmus... dann ein paar Nasenzüge lang muffig-modrig-alt... jetzt Marzipan, Bohnerwachs, ein Hauch Minze,.. wieder ein Löffel Marmelade, Früchtebrot, Waldhonig, ein Hauch Möbelpolitur... toll
Geschmack: kräftig, vollmundig, Schokolade, Kakao, Nougat... Dominosteine (Lebkuchen, Marillenmarmelade)... länger im Mund: alte Treppe mit Bohnerwachs, altes Leder, nochmal was richtig dunkel-kirschiges
Abgang: lang, Kakao, Schwarzkirsche, etwas harzig... dann warm und trocken
Kommentar: Sauleckeres Teil, vor allem wunderbare Nase, da hätte ich noch weiterfabulieren können, ziemlich abwechslungreich, da kommt sehr viel rum. Insofern ist es fast schwierig, dann beim Trinken nicht enttäuscht zu sein - der Geschmack ist natürlich auch toll, aber der komplette Nasenfasching wird da nicht abgebildet, geht auch gar nicht. Preislich außerhalb meines Normalbudgets, 270 dürfte aber für 'ne so'ne leckere OA dieses Alters angemessen sein.
