With the Kavalan Peatist series, the Taiwanese distillery opens a new chapter in the field of peated whiskies and shows how finely tuned peat use can succeed under subtropical maturing conditions. Instead of maximum smoke intensity, the focus here is on harmonious balance. The peat acts as an aromatic accent and complements the flavour profile without dominating it as with the classic Islay whiskies. The Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask has been specially adapted to the Taiwanese climate and combines a gentle smokiness with a pronounced fruity flavour. Spanish Oloroso sherry casks from the traditional sherry triangle (Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda) were selected for maturation. This creates typical Oloroso notes of dark dried fruit, spicy sherry flavours and intense cask finish, combined with the characteristic tropical fruit nuances for which Kavalan is known worldwide. The name Peatist is made up of "Peat" and the English suffix "-ist". It symbolises the distillery's aspiration to reinterpret familiar styles and consciously expand aromatic boundaries. As with the renowned Solist series, the Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask is also a single cask bottling at cask strength.
