Mars Maltage 'Cosmo' is a Blended Malt from the Japanese distillery Shinshu. It is blended from the distillery's own and Scottish Single Malts and matured in wine barrels, which give it its reddish colour and fruity aroma.
The Hombo family has been distilling spirits for over a century, including whisky since 1949. Their Shinshu distillery is the highest in Japan.

Schöne Farbe, schöne Nase!
Der hat was Florales, ein klein wenig Sherry,
Malz und Holz.
Auch geschmacklich macht der einiges her,
Süffig und rund,
mit Holzaromen und einer leichten Süße.
Zwar weiß man nicht genau, wo der Whisky herkommt,
aus Japan eher nicht,
aber die gefragten rund 45€ sind völlig ok.

Aroma: Zunächst ein Anflug von Milchsäure; doch dann Waldhonig und vielschichtige Fruchtigkeit, hinterlegt mit einem Hauch Rauchigkeit ...
Geschmack: Deutlich fruchtig-würzig
Abgang: Anhaltend; - mild-fruchtig, zart rauchig ...

Für einen japanischen Whisky erstaunlich kraftvoll, dabei aber natürlich immer noch rund.
Die Rauchigkeit darf man sich hier nicht wie bei einem schottischen Whisky vorstellen, sondern hier ist alles weich und hintergründig.
Ein schönes Erlebnis, zu einem akzeptablen Preis!
