Unlike the distillery's usual rye, Michter's Barrel Strength Rye is bottled from single casks at cask strength. This rye whiskey is matured for six to eight years in new burnt barrels made from American white oak. Since the 1990s, the team at Michter's has been doing pioneering work to re-establish the category of high-quality American rye whiskey. To mature Michter's Barrel Strength Rye, the matured rye distillate is filled into the barrels at around 109 proof. The result is a rich, smooth and full-bodied whiskey. As the 2025 edition is a single cask bottling, each cask is filled with its respective alcohol content at the time of bottling. The alcohol strength of this bottling ranges from 107.4 proof (53.7 % vol.) to 115.2 proof (57.6 % vol.).

The Distillery: Michter's
Michter's is one of the most traditional American Whiskey distilleries, with a history dating back to 1753. Founded by John Shenk in Pennsylvania, continued by Abraham S. Bomberger, marked by Prohibition and changes in ownership, it was given the name Michter's in the 1950s. In the 1990s, production was moved to Kentucky and modernised. It takes place at three locations: the Shively Distillery, the Fort Nelson Building and the farm near Springfield.
