Michter's Barrel Strength Rye is bottled at cask strength, unlike the distillery's usual rye from single casks. This rye whiskey matures for six to eight years in new burnt-out American white oak barrels and is bottled at 51.5% vol. Since the 1990s, the Michter's team has been doing pioneering work to re-establish the category of high-quality American rye whiskey. To mature the Michter's Barrel Strength Rye, the matured rye distillate is filled into the barrels at 103 proof instead of the higher proof customary in the industry. The result is a rich, smooth and full-bodied whiskey.

The Distillery: Michter's
Michter's is one of the most traditional American Whiskey distilleries, with a history dating back to 1753. Founded by John Shenk in Pennsylvania, continued by Abraham S. Bomberger, marked by Prohibition and changes in ownership, it was given the name Michter's in the 1950s. In the 1990s, production was moved to Kentucky and modernised. It takes place at three locations: the Shively Distillery, the Fort Nelson Building and the farm near Springfield.
