Variety Single Malt Whisky
Aroma Strong and dense with dark fruits such as dates and sultanas, plus spicy notes of leather and nuts complemented by malt and a slight sweetness.
Taste Full-bodied and intense with spicy sherry, dried fruit, dark chocolate and a savoury, slightly meaty note, plus oak and subtle spices such as clove and pepper.
Finish Long and warming with dry oak, lingering spice, dark fruits and a slightly tart, nutty finish.

Product description
The Mortlach 100 Proof Edition was bottled by Signatory Vintage as number 73 in the series. The whisky previously spent 11 years in first fill and refill sherry butts as well as refill hogsheads, which gave the Single Malt a strong spiciness with sherry and fruit flavours. In the series, all whiskies are bottled at 100 proof, which corresponds to 57.1% vol. The "proof" system was first introduced in Great Britain to determine whether a spirit was high enough in proof to be taxed and to ensure that gunpowder on ships could still be ignited in rough seas. A mixture of spirits and gunpowder had to be able to ignite. Today, this measure is rarely used but has been revived by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage for the 100 Proof Edition. Unadulterated quality, pure enjoyment and intense volume percentages at fair prices.

Mortlach war die erste der berühmten sieben Brennereien in Dufftown. Früher hieß der Ort Mortlach und war ein sehr kleines Dorf, und so kam auch die Brennerei zu ihrem Namen. Außerdem war die Brennerei auch die erste legale der Stadt. Sie unterscheidet sich durchaus von den anderen Brennereien, vor allem wenn man die erhöhte Anzahl an illegalen Tätigkeiten betrachtet, die damals auf dem Gelände betrieben wurden. read more
