Old Ballantruan is produced at the Tomintoul Distillery in Speyside. It owes its name to the Ballantruan spring of the same name in the Cromdale Hills, near the village of Tomintoul. Untypical for this region, heavily peated malt with 55ppm smoke content is used to produce this Single Malt.

    Abgang: Peat Smoke Oak Dark Chocolate Dried Fruit

    Kommentar: Ordentlich Rauch im Aroma und auch durchgängig bis in den Abgang. Der Alkohol ist wunderbar eingebunden und ich hätte nie auf 50% getippt. Dafür eine angenehme 'Frische' im Geschmack - aber für mich eher Marzipan als Zitrusnoten. Allenfalls ein Anklang an Orange. Auch hier ist der Rauch merkbar. Holz ebenfalls, aber nicht dominant. Langer Abgang mit Anklang an dunkle Schokolade und immer noch Marzipan, Holz und Rauch.
    Alles in allem sind die Aromen wunderbar eingebunden und nicht leicht zu trennen.
    Preis-Genussverhältnis ist top. Der Old Ballantruan ist Standard in meinem Regal!

    Aroma: Peat Smoke Ham Sweet Fruit Eine eher dreckige Rauchnote à la alter Räucherkammer. Ein paar vergorene Früchte. Nicht gerade komplex, aber angenehm.

    Geschmack: Sweet Malt Spices Peat Smoke Süß und malzig. Ein paar Gewürze mischen sich rein. Der Rauch meldet sich erst nach einer Weile wieder. Im Geschmack auch eher unterkomplex.

    Abgang: Peat Smoke Sweet Spices Herb Oak Nochmal volle Rauchladung, schön süß. Deutlich mehr Gewürzfracht, driftet in eine herbe Trockenheit ab. Im Abgang reißt es dieser Whisky dann doch noch raus.

    Kommentar: insgesamt zwar eher wenig komplex, aber dieser Dram macht das, was er soll. Und das macht er an sich ganz gut. Die Jugend stört hier überhaupt nicht, der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden, angenehm aromatische Rauchnote. Nur mit dem Preis tue ich mich leider schwer. Ich finde das dann doch etwas viel, für das was man hier geboten bekommt.
