This Old Pulteney is sweet and fruity with a hint of oak. The body is full and strong with vanilla and floral overtones. The finish is warming and lingering. This malt is not chill-filtered and is bottled at a strong 46%.

The Distillery: Pulteney
For a long time Pulteney could be called the most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland. When Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso opened in 2013 they took over this title, but Pulteney hasn’t lost its attraction on Whisky lovers. The coastal style of the Old Pulteney Whisky (as the Whiskies from Pulteney are called) is a very unique one and the releases use to be very well judged by the Whisky experts.

Geschmack: Toffee, eher schwer, kraftvoll, süß salzig, orange
Abgang: komplex, wieder nach Meer, Süße, Würze, kräftig; toll, lang und schön

Aroma: Wilde See, Malz, Zitrone, etwas Karamell sowie leicht Vanille
Geschmack: sehr blumig, Zitrus kommt sehr zur Geltung, Karamell oder Toffee
Abgang: runder Abgang , komplex süß, Honig, Kokos und Meersalz
Kommentar: Nach der Entäuschung des Glenmorangie Ice Dream, habe ich mich gleich auf den Old Pulteney gestürzt. Dass hat mich entschädigt. Gleichwohl fehlt zu dem hohen Preis noch ein gewisses Etwas, was diesen Whisky dann auch zu einem herausragenden Whisky macht.

Aroma: Sanfte Vanille, frische gelbe Steinfrüchte, etwas mineralisch, kalkig, zarte florale Noten
Geschmack: Ausgesprochen harmonisch im Mundraum. Lieblich und floral mit grasigen Anklängen. Salzig und süß mit Nektarinen
Abgang: Ähnlich wie bei 21 Jährigen bildet sich eine den Mundraum auskleidende klebrige Karamellsirup-Note, die aber auch hier nicht störend ist. Sehr leichte und angenehme Tannine. Dabei keinerlei Bitterkeit.
Kommentar: Ein wunderschöner Whisky - zu seiner Zeit in den 2010ern einer der besten Whiskies in puncto Preis-Leistung.
