Product description
The Matsui comes from the Japanese Kurayoshi distillery in Tottori, in the south of Honshu. It is the smoky bottling from the limited edition bottled in design bottles. The label shows the famous woodcut 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa' and the paper is designed like an old parchment sheet on which the woodcuts were printed at the beginning of the 19th century.

Aroma: Schon im Aroma sehr ungewöhnlich - eine Form von Rauchigkeit, die so nicht kenne. Süßliche, florale Noten, die Raucharomen sind eher dezent und erinnern etwas an verbrannte Kunststoffe, nicht unbedingt unangenehm, aber ungewöhnlich.
Geschmack: Im Geschmack wirkt der Whisky zunächst etwas scharf, es dominieren Minzaromen, der Rauch errinnert so gar nicht an Torfrauch oder Lagerfeuer sondern eher an Lakritze und Hustenbonbons.
Abgang: Im Abgang sind die Hustenbonbons noch lange spürbar.
Kommentar: Muss man mögen, für Freunde der rauchigen Islay-Malts eher: Finger weg. Anderseits: Ein sehr interessanter und ungewöhnlicher Whisky, wenn man sich auch auf etwas anderes als den schottischen Mainstream einlassen will.
