For their Rye, Wild Turkey uses particularly strongly burnt-out oak barrels (alligator stage). In contrast to the 101 series, the whiskey here was bottled at a pleasant drinking strength.

Situated in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, the Wild Turkey Distillery is an exceptional example for a Whiskey distillery that follows its own vision of how Bourbon has to be: characterful, very aromatic and last but not least full of power! It hasn’t been very long that the distillery is called like the famous American bird. Before known as Ripy Distillery, it is now named after the brand that Austin, Nichols & Co developed. In 1940s Manager Thomas McCarthy, Manager of Austin Nichols, carried samples of his new Bourbon with him when he went to hunt wild turkeys with his friends. Soon they started to call it the “Wild Turkey” Whiskey and McCarthy decided to use this nick to be the brand name for his Bourbon Whiskey. read more

Aroma: leicht süß mit karamell, roggen, pflaumen, nüssen und ein wenig nasses gras. die nase ist unaufdringlich, ätherisch und die acetonnote ist gut eingebunden.Sweet Caramel Rye Plum Nuts Grass

Geschmack: hier dominiert das faß mit vielen röstaromen, gefolgt von verbranntem karamell mit einer leichten süße. die acetonnote ist ebenfalls vorhanden, aber passabel eingebunden.Oak Herb Caramel Sweet

Abgang: ist kurz bis mittellang mit tanninen und ein wenig dunkler schoki. im nachgang kommt noch ein bißchen zuckerwatte nach.Herb Dark Chocolate Sweet

Kommentar: ein rye dem es an power und ausdrucksstärke mangelt. sonst ist er ganz ok, obwohl sensorisch nicht viel geboten ist. kann man pur trinken, ist aber zum mixen wohl besser geeignet.

Aroma: Sanfte und runde Bourbon note, dann kommt der Roggen durch, wieder Eiche und Vanille, saftiger reifer Pfirsich, evtl. Gewürze im Chemieschrank.

Geschmack: Siehe Aroma, im Mund genau so wie in der Nase, würzig süffig.

Abgang: Würzig mit leichter Süße im Hintergrund, lang

Kommentar: Ein sehr guter, aber nicht mein lieblings Rye.
