With Legends at the Bar #2 - Selkie, The Caskhound presents a characterful Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the renowned Clynelish Distillery, which has been selected and bottled for this series. The name "Selkie" is inspired by Celtic mythology, in which Selkies are described as seal-like creatures that can shed their skin and take on human form. They symbolise freedom, change and a deep connection with the sea. A reference to this legend can also be found on the label of this bottling, whose female figure picks up on the mythological selkie theme. The 12-year maturation in virgin oak (new wood) gives this whisky a distinct flavour and a pronounced cask character without masking the typical, waxy and elegant distillery character of Clynelish. Instead, this is specifically supported and further developed. The combination of classic Clynelish distillate and fresh oak creates a powerful, structured interpretation of the house style. With a powerful 57.3 % vol. cask strength, the whisky is intense, full-bodied and expressive. This bottling clearly demonstrates the potential of Clynelish when virgin oak is used in a targeted manner.
