Carsebridge's single grain whisky was matured for 48 years and, after the long maturation period, refined and released in Bourbon barrels by the independent bottler Living Souls. The rare casks from the Carsebridge distillery, which has been closed since 1983 and was completely demolished in 1992, made the Single Grain a tasty invitation through Scotland's past. Pineapple, mandarins and warming hints of shortbread with honey radiate with an aroma reminiscent of fireworks that have not long been extinguished. Sounds a little far-fetched, but once you have this time-honoured Grain whisky in your glass, these facets become clear. The palate then reveals additional flavours of apricots, fruity sweetness and soft malty biscuits. The medium-long finish is graceful and a contemporary witness to high-quality grain whiskies from a bygone era of whisky.
Calum Leslie - former Head of Innovation at the Loch Lomond Group -, Jamie Williamson - founder of the UK wholesaler Kilninian Spirits and worked for many years at Douglas Laing - and John Torrance - 20 years' experience in the industry, including at Diageo and T&Cs.including at Diageo and Tullibardine, are part of the Living Souls team that founded the independent bottler in 2024. The design of the bottles and labels also plays a very important role. It is an integral part of the story of each bottling, which is shaped and guided by Taste. Each creation is expressed through a distinctive colour palette that reflects the individual character of each bottling. Living Souls whiskies are presented in an elegant cognac bottle with soft-touch paper and a high-quality sealing strip labelled "Small Batch Spirit Masterpieces". The hand-drawn spiral oak emblem symbolises the soul of each individual cask and captures movement, maturation and the character that time lends to the distillate. The Living Souls bottlings are therefore not only suitable for savouring but also for collecting and giving as gifts.
