This Lochlea is the third bottling in the seasonal Sowing Edition series. The bottling is intended to reflect what happens on the farm as the seasons change and to pass this on to the palate in terms of flavour. The Third Crop Whisky from the Sowing Edition symbolises spring, when the barley is sown. The Lochlea distillery began production in 2018 on the farm of the same name in the Scottish Lowlands. The Scottish national poet Robert Burns lived on the farm from 1777 to 1784. Like its predecessors, the Lowlander is matured in first-fill bourbon barrels and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. However, this bottling is a full 9 months older than the second crop, which gives it a nutty, floral flavour profile with subtle accents of pepper and apple.

De Distilleerderij: Lochlea
The Lochlea distillery in the Scottish Lowlands has been producing Single Malt Whisky since 2018. The team grows their own grain for the Lochlea products on the approximately 90 hectares. They are particularly proud of the estate's history, which the Scottish national poet Robert Burns called home from 1777 to 1784 and also lent a hand on the farm. The distillery manager is none other than former Laphroaig director John Campbell.

Aroma: Mandeln und Rosenblüten verbinden sich mit Akzenten von weißem Pfeffer.
Geschmack: Helle Fruchtnoten mit Anklängen von Apflblüten und sanften Nuancen von Heu.
Abgang: Frisch und grasig mit Facetten von warmem Heu.

Aroma: Man merkt die Weiterentwicklung zum First Crop deutlich. Der New Make Charakter ist schon deutlich geringer und es kommen schon schöne Fassnoten fast gleichauf. Also insgesamt immernoch jung, aber schon schön entwickelt und schon leichte Komplexität.
Geschmack: Nur noch etwas jung, schon deutlich ausgeglichener als der First Crop. Die Entwicklung geht für mich in die richtige Richtung. Sehr leckerer und „ehrlicher“ junger Single Malt aus purister Ex-Bourbon-Fassreifung.
Abgang: Der Abgang ist schon etwas länger, nicht mehr ganz so kurz, sehr angenehmes Ausklingen der vielen Aromen die man zuvor gerochen und geschmeckt hat.
Kommentar: Nüchtern betrachtet natürlich zu teuer für den eigentlichen Inhalt/Geschmack. Aber für einen Lochlea-Fan ein Muss, da es die puristischste Reifung zeigt.
