Only a few distilleries in Scotland are still private owned. The Speyside distillery Glenfarclas is one of them. Maybe it’s the best known among them and maybe it’s one of the most successful family owned distilleries in Scotland ever. But for sure the Grants, owners of Glenfarclas, are very proud of the private status as their slogan “The Spirit of Independence” shows. Six generations of Grants have shaped Glenfarclas, from 1865 until today. This guaranteed a constancy of quality and foresight that a durable product as Whisky needs. Aroma: Braucht etwas um sich zu entfalten, besonders wenn die Flasche frisch geöffnet wird. Die Farbe gibt bereits einen Hinweis darauf was einen erwartet. Eine nicht dominante Kopfnote die zwischen süsslichen fruchtigen Tönen und dem Sherry schwankt und sich dann damit vereinigt.

Geschmack: Nichts störendes sondern sehr rein und klar, dennoch eine ein breites Bouquet, dass sich mit etwas Wasser verdünnt, insebsondere für "Wenig-Trinker" besser erschliesst. Deutlich komplexer als der 10er. Eignet sich gut für Einsteiger die sich einem Charakterkopf nähern möchten und die Zwischentöne herausschmecken möchten.

Kommentar: Guter Whisky der ohne das Agestatement auch deutlich älter geschätzt werden könnte. Er ist durchaus vielseitig und ist immer wieder spannend zu probieren. Eignet sich bestimmt gut als Geschenk für "Erfahrene Trinker". Jedoch ist der Preis mittlerweile eine kleine Hürde wobei ein Probierglas sich trotzdem lohnt.
