The Maker's Cut by Glenrothes belongs to the Soleo Collection, which replaces the Vintage and Reserve bottlings. The Single Malt was matured entirely in first fill sherry casks and bottled at the whisky maker's preferred strength.

The Glenrothes Distillery is located in Rothes in the heart of the Speyside. It looks back on a very turbulent history. The day the first spirit was distilled at Glenrothes was 28 December 1879 and this might have been seen a bit as a bad omen: It was the day the Tay Bridge at Dundee collapsed. Several times The Glenrothes was hit by fire and it burnt down at last, but as a phoenix it rose again and today it’s back on the stage and playing a big role in the Whisky game. read more

Aroma: Relativ mild, Orange, eher trocken.

Geschmack: Süß startend, dann stark auf der Faßseite. Aromen ähnlich wie in der Nase, nur stark vom Holz überlagert.

Abgang: Mittellang.

Kommentar: Für eine Sherry-Vollreifung eine Enttäuschung. Hat der 12er zumindest noch eine typische Glenrothes-Charakteristik, so ist diese hier nicht mehr feststellbar. Für den Preis kein Mehrwert gegenüber Kollegen mit Altersangabe. auch die kaum spürbaren 48,8% machen das nicht wett. Grundsätzlich nicht schlecht gemacht, aber den Preis leider nicht wert.

Ein feiner Tropfen. Sehr feine Nase mit leichtem Harz und Eichen noten. Die Stärke find ich noch sehr angenehm und er ist sehr vollmundig. Ded Abgang ist lang, ganz leichte Schärfe aber eher mehr Gewürze.
Alles in allen ein sehr feiner Tropfen.

Aroma: Sherry mit Harz- und Eichennoten, dunkle Beeren und Orangen(schalen)

Geschmack: Würziger und cremiger Sherry mit Orangennoten

Abgang: lang, fruchtig, Orange mit Eiche

Kommentar: Er ist "anders", was am harzigen Eindruck liegen mag. Der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden und noch in Trinkstärke. Einige Tropfen Wasser heben zwar das Aroma, zerstören aber den Geschmack. Daher genießen wie er ist!
