Knockando Master Reserve is the oldest regularly available vintage bottling of the Speyside distillery. Special casks with smaller runs are used for this. The 21 years of maturation result in an exceptionally deep and smooth Single Malt.

The distillery was founded in 1898 by John Thompson, and administered by the Knockando-Glenlivet Distillery Company. The acclaimed Whisky architect Charles Doig designed the site. The name of the distillery comes from the Gaelic 'Cnoc-an-dhu', meaning 'little black hill', quite probably an homage to the hills in-between which the site is located. read more

Aroma: Recht einfach, helle Früchte wie Kirschen und rote Äpfel. Alles recht frisch und noch nicht gereift. 43% Vol. gut eingebunden. Allerdings sehr viel Eiche (nicht von der schönen Sorte), erinnert mich an Omas Schaukelstuhl.

Geschmack: Keine Überraschungen, angenehm öliges Mundgefühl und nette Sherrynoten mit unreifen roten Früchten und Beeren. Hinten raus kommt dann der Eichenhammer.

Abgang: mittellang, Eiche immer stärker werdend, überdeckt alle anderen Aromen, die man eventuell hätte wahrnehmen können.

Kommentar: Habe ihn damals noch für 65€ erstehen können und hat mir gezeigt, dass man bei älteren Whiskys doch lieber mehr investieren sollte. Wirkt für mich so, als würde man zigfach befüllte Fässer zur Reifung hernehmen, sodass dieser Malt eigentlich nur noch nach Eiche schmeckt. Je länger die Falsche auf ist, desto schlimmer wird es. Für mittlerweile über 100€ ist dieser Malt eine Frechheit. Es gibt 12 Jährige die den hier um Längen schlagen.

Kommentar: Ein super Whisky! Hatte mir diesen vor 4 Jahren für noch € 75,00 geholt und wenn ich mir die Preise von heute ansehe, damals ein unglaubliches PLV. Schmeckt sehr gut und auch heute ist das PLV noch absolut ok für einen 21-jährigen. Ich kann ihn sehr empfehlen!
