The Game of Thrones Single Malt Collection was bottled in honour of the eighth and final season of the series Game of Thrones (GoT). With different alcohol strengths, each of the rare Scotch whiskies is dedicated to one of the houses of Westeros, the setting of the series and the Night's Watch that protects it. The 9-year-old Lagavulin is an imposing Single Malt Whisky that evokes memories of the wealth and tenacity of House Lannister.

The Scottish Malt Whisky distillery Lagavulin is located on the south side of the island of Islay, between the Laphroaig and Ardbeg distilleries. Lagavulin, pronounced Lagga-voulin, comes from Gaelic and roughly means “hollow by the mill”. Founded in 1816 by John Johnston, the Lagavulin distillery is owned by the Diageo group and its whiskies are part of its Classic Malts Selection. read more

Kommentar: Lagavulin House Lannister 9 Jahre wirkt wie ein junger, aber schon ziemlich charakterstarker Islay. Der Rauch ist deutlich da, eher trocken und aschig, dazu dieses typische maritime Gefühl – ein bisschen wie Lagerfeuer am Meer. Trotz des Alters bringt er eine überraschende Süße mit: Vanille, Karamell und etwas reife Frucht fangen den Rauch gut ab. Insgesamt kein ganz so tiefgründiger Whisky wie der klassische 16er, aber eine sehr stimmige, kräftige Abfüllung, die gerade als „Fan-Edition“ positiv überrascht.
