Nosing:
Dried fruits, orange peel, and a sweet creaminess like creme pat or custard.
Taste:
Sweet arrival. Toffee and honey, spices develop and causes it to dry slightly
Finish:
Medium to long with spiciness and black pepper, drying somewhat
Comment:
I picked this up alongside its 12 year old counterpart as I hadn't tried anything from this distillery before. I have to say there's an awful lot to like here. The nose is punchy with dense fruity aromas, and the palate is like eating a toffee pudding. The spiciness in the finish and late palate help to balance the whole thing out. The age I think is done just right, there's enough wood influence here to keep things under control. As far as cask strength whisky goes this one actually is at its best with relatively little water, maybe just enough to take it to 50% or so. This is definitely one I'll consider revisiting in the future.
